We saw an Alligator Snapping Turtle in Jackson although I couldn’t get a picture at all. This turtle is just plain huge. They can get to be more than 200 pounds and are known for staying still for very long periods of time. The one in Jackson was tucked back in the corner of the tank and didn’t move at all. I watched it for maybe 10 minutes and went back several times and it was in the very same place.
The Chattanooga aquarium was great. It has the largest fresh water exhibit in the country and they had several alligator snapping turtles in different tanks. This turtle actually moved and opened it’s mouth to show it’s tongue. The tongue moves around like a small worm to attract fish. It was the coolest thing!
